Alitalia has been offering for a while three "carnets", i.e. sets of open tickets (open date and name) at fixed price, see e.g.
http://www.alitalia.com/it_it/Volare...net/index.html (in Italian). I was thinking of buying the Europe carnet as a present for my parents, so that they can travel around and/or visit me.
Since they tend to decide their schedule with little advance, I wanted an option that gives them some flexibility. The Europe carnet comes at about 150 euros per one-way ticket, which about the price of a cheap return fare in europe, so I presume it allows for some choice.
However, unlike for the other two carnet, the rules of that carnet are a bit unclear. The RomaMilano carnet is definitly business-oriented, whereas Italy carnet books only in T and *only if T is available*, it would seem. Does anyone have direct experience with the Europe one? in partcular, what class does it book into, and what is in practice the availability of such a class typically (on a few days notice, for instance)?
