I am in a chemical industry and contract workers does not get paid more than permanent (full time) employees. I am talking about laboratory technical position with bachelor degree in chemistry. Yes, I am talking about comparing the same position.

Anyway, try to keep in original topic, the TV news about this I saw mentioned about benefits. One flight attendants interviewed said having sick leave, maternity leave, vacation, etc. will help in pursuing employee’s personal life if the position changes to permanent status. Form this I took as current contract flight attendants at ANA do not have those benefits.

HR (human resources) person at my employment once told me that there is a rule of thumb among HR people, which is (I forgot exact number) to add about 30-40% to an employee’s salary and that is amount an employer have to pay considering all those benefits comes along with permanent employment.

As in companies I worked for, and guessing same for ANA, that contract position has advantage for an employers because it reduce benefit costs for an employer, which can add up to be lot. Also I heard that current ANA contract flight attendants have fewer flying hours so they get less base pay compare with permanent hired flight attendants.

Also, wondering if contract flight attendants have to pay entirely for 国民年金, which is a social security in the U.S. I learned 国民年金 works similar to the social security in the U.S. Where permanent workers pay 50% of premium and an employer pay 50%. Where at my work every time we hired contract or temp workers, the company did not pay 国民年金 premium and an employee was 100% responsible for the premium. Add to that no health insurance coverage, no sick days, and no vacation for contract or temp workers at my place of employment.

I think big part is cost of providing benefits to employees. As the news I saw about the topic mentioned that ANA will have increase in cost by employing flight attendants in permanent basis.
