I can't find the forum mentioned in the pinned post so I'll ask here.

I have a 24 hour (exact) transit in PVG. It's over night and I really want to go explore the city. So do I need to tell my airline at the check-in that I want to do the 72hour thing or can i just do the 24 hour visa free (i read that i can't leave the airport then)
If I have to do the 72 hour visa free entry, do I have to have a hotel booked? I figured I'd just leave my luggage at the airport, pull an all-nighter, go clubbing or crash in a burger king or something for a couple hours. Is that possible? Do I have to go to a police station to register in this case?
I read about the timatic here, what is it and where can I print that out?
