I've got both and am in similar position to you

Avis P is less useful ( and it shouldn't be ) than Hertz Gold


Last thirty days -
In Siciliy booked a small car ( with Avis ) and got that model - so NO upgrade. Ok its not guarenteed but happens to ofteb

In Vegas ( with Hertz ) booked a small car and they gave me a Great Mustang. Great upgrade on what was a much cheaper rate vs Avis ( which is why I booked with Hertz )
