I have no personal experience with hospitals in Capetown. Groote Schuur Hospital has an excellent reputation. The world's first heart transplant was done there. The Netcare Hospital is also highly regarded.
Finally, my condolences, CBear.
Much appreciated DocP.
My mom trained as a nurse at Groote Schuur probably about 47 or so years ago. My dad had major surgery there decades ago. Since it's a teaching hospital, it's one of the few public hospitals I would feel comfortable being treated at.
To the OP, you can google Netcare, Mediclinic. There are several hospital "chains" and I'm sure there's reviews and complaints online about all of them. Wikipedia has a list of hospitals in the Western Cape/Cape Town area.

DO get travel insurance. We were lucky that my parents were visiting their children and grandchildren so my mom had a place to stay and someone to drive her around.
Have a fun trip!!
