Paid with my AMEX, from Belgium btw.
I read their T&C for insurances, protection,.. this only applies to tangible assets and not to services provided in this case (=hotel booking)

Gave them a call anyway, just to be sure: they confirmed that cannot do anything about it.

Contacted the hotel, they also confirmed the cancellation this morning (it's 11AM here)
