I've never stayed at either one but I might be going soon.
It's been several years since I stayed at the GH, but to me the differences are that the rooms are larger and just more plush. And there is absolutely no comparison in the public spaces. The lobby and other public spaces in the GH are just, well, much more grand than they are at the HR. I also think the staff is, or at least was, just that little bit more savvy and professional.

HK has some of the finest hotels in the world. To me the HR is a very solid 4 star hotel, which in most areas of the world would make it a 5 star hotel. But not in HK.
