I booked an Oceanview villa and was given a view of palm trees from our 3rd floor room. The ocean can literally only be seen sporadically between the trees (perhaps <5% of what you can see). I wouldn't even describe the villa as having a partial Oceanview. I ran into owners who also had a similar experience (they were also moved). At check in, I did ask what floor the villa was on, and that went unanswered. I knew why later!
They did eventually make things right after a lot of to and fro (multiple calls and about 30 min) and threats about posting of pictures. Apparently "Oceanview" is a "category" to them, and not a description. They also tried to play the card where we weren't owners, and that owners had priority etc. While I do understand that, there should also be a level of expectation relating to the accuracy of a booked room. We were eventually moved, and were compensated. But it should not have been so ardous and there was a great sense of deception. Very disappointing from Marriott.
My advice would be to stand your ground on expectations compared to what you have booked. Ideally, they would have less deceptive room categorization, with perhaps honest and open communications. While the other staff, property and restaurants are superb, this is the type of negativity that is most remembered and would turn many people off from returning (or purchasing a timeshare for that matter).
