All you advocates of ignoring safety procedures .... what odds are you using?
If you are not sure, then Google the phrase "Probabilistic Risk Assessment".
Other odds. If I'm sitting at a red-light unnecessarily at 3 AM in the morning, what are the odds I'm likely to get robbed or car-jacked while I just sit there? Or have some drunk rear-end me while I'm sitting there because he doesn't even see the red-light when coming up behind me? If I'm out driving at odd hours, I'll treat the red-light as a stop sign and if there's any traffic I'll wait. But if there's no other traffic around, I deem it safer to treat the red-light as a "stop sign" and check for traffic then proceed.
