What is proper queue etiquette?

I obey my cluster of 5 but have not made attempts to comply with absolute consectutive boarding. I just stand behind the passengers that arrive at the signs first and assume later arrivals will queue behind me. Comparing boarding passes seems like excessive unnecessary banter and sharing too much personal information.

The worst position I have pulled has been B0x so my thoughts might change if I were holding a C2x.
