I'm not an advocate of the electronics off rule but the response may not go over well. I do believe in jury nullification but arguing with a FA is not as fair as a jury of your peers.

IT is a stupid rule but I turn off my phone only to save the battery for later.
I've drove in 15+ nations and the longest I had to wait was 1 and a half minutes.
(Besides, if I stay in a place long enough, I usually get public transport passes.)
