Well, I can sympathize with someone who pays $4200 for a ticket to Hawaii thinking lounge access should be included. United's decided to draw the line based on cabin and origination/destination. Fairer (farer?) would be to offer a dollar spend as a workaround for domestic flights. Let the bearer of a domestic ticket greater than, say, $3000 be allowed access (and ONLY the bearer of said ticket). That would get high value ticket purchasers an added bennie, while keeping out all the upgradees who don't have memberships or the (rightly) maligned Explorer passes. This shouldn't significantly add to the Club crowd.
