I was actually excited about this new policy, until I actually stayed at a Marriott on the weekend and saw what the 'continental' breakfast looked like. It was worse than the executive lounge breakfast. Even worse, the same hotel (Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North) previously provided a full breakfast.

I have no doubt that Marriott told their properties to think of the new rules (breakfast and platinum gift) not as a new perk, but as a new profit center. Many are doing this, with gusto.
