Yes, I would expect that Marriott gift cards would work. I had some left over Marriott gift cards that I used in Spain.

But there is one caveat. If your Marriott gift cards are in US dollars, the hotel may do a conversion to local currency. So you might lose a little bit on the currency exchange. So you should weigh the value of the points you will earn against the currency exchange fee. But I suspect it might still be worth going ahead with your plan.
