Doesn't matter if the person you were responding to does or doesn't fully understand the upgrade procedure (in fact, I don't think anyone here does either). There is a reason Smisek is keeping it opaque, and it's not for our good.
The fact that passengers only appear on the upgrade waitlist after they check in is not "opaque", it's communicated clearly on the screen itself and in many other places. [personal attack removed, per TOS]
