Long debris path, aircraft upright

This aircraft was flown in

Maybe I am wrong..I hope that the CFR will tell the tale.

The highest probability is CFIT.

The news reports mention something about being on a hill. I don't know BHM but it is quite possible that the crew dropped below the GS while distracted. Also don't know about visibility.....I am sure that at one point they had the runway in sight but something might have happened in the interim.

We had a FDX 727 miss the runway about 10 years ago. 5AM. First time in TLH for the crew, intermittent fog, back course approach. The aircraft wound up clipping the trees in the national forest beyond the airport fence. It came to a rest on the airport property. The crew exited and the aircraft burned up after the crew got out. All 3 of the cockpit crew had too many things working against them. If they would have taken their time and gone to the outer marker for an ILS approach, there would be nothing to report.

One thing that I am puzzled about is reports of the aircraft continuing to burn for an extended period after the crash. The cargo manifest might make interesting reading.
