Oddly enough, I got one of the SM auction emails today (unrelated note, watching a Vikings game and meeting Christian Ponder isn't at all a once in a lifetime experience. ..). Probably just a coincidence, but I couldn't help but thinking the timing of all of this really supports the notion that DL is looking to clear as many SM off the books as possible rather than reflecting an actual analysis of the increased cost.
