EVERYONE in the DoD and other agencies use the gov rate for leisure travel. As a matter of fact, most gov employees forget to use it!
I don't happen to work for the DoD, but to say you "can't" get fired for using the government rate on leisure is clearly not true. If the agency for which you work has a policy against it (mine does, and I'll bet others do), you CAN get fired for breaking that policy. Now, it may be unlikely, but that's a different point.
And, skunker, it has nothing to do with whether I believe you. It has to do with the fact that if I'm questioned, I need to be able to show that the fedroom rate is allowed. If you're a government employee, I'm sure you know that everyone does not interpret the rules the same way so it's important to have documentation. Thanks for the eye-roll, though.
