I'm lucky in that I have a very handy little gadget called a watch, and a quick glance wristwards is usually all one needs to determine how far away I am from my destination.

It must be nightmarish to have sit there in complete ignorance of progress on your journey without a dedicated screen in the ceiling to show you.
