I see what you're saying, and that's a perfectly valid interpretation. I suppose that I (rightly or wrongly) read between the lines and saw that as the OP saying he thought AA would have had to reach out (presumably to her, since it's her card) to get authorization for the new charge.
However, the more I look the more I think perhaps the OP read too much into the agent saying that they should just test and see if the card works in regards to attempting to charge the card the first time. I don't know of any way to do such a "test" without attempting the actual charge.
