Why is MAA-HKG-JFK-HKG-MAA cheaper than HKG-JFK-HKG!!? Blows my mind because there is an extra hong kong to chennai flight on the cheaper route. I am glad I am not in Hong Kong, it would be like twice the price.
Departure of origin plays a lot in airline price schemes. Nothing really a surprise here. Frequently some deals its cheaper to go TPE-HKG-JFK-HKG-TPE than HKG-JFK-HKG, it is just how airline pricing scheme works. Not really a straight linear scheme like train tickets where distance dictates price.
