This is disingenuous. Clearly the OP was prepared for the charge to go through at the time he provided the card number, but was unprepared for the charge to be put through at the whim of AA days later having not checked back for authorisation for same. And me having given AA someone else's credit card does not relieve the merchant from the responsibility to ensure that use of the card is authorised by the holder. Maybe I have some responsibility for providing it, but AA are still responsible for ensuring that they are making genuine and authorised charges.

Frankly I can understand the OP's frustrations. It seems that some here would prefer to blame the OP while ignoring the fact that AA made at least one mistake (charging the phone booking fee for an online redemption) and very possibly made several others. Maybe there's some blame to spread around on all sides but rudely heaping all of it on the OP doesn't seem right to me.
