Thanks ... I was actually just wondering if Frankfurt am Main had some sort of publicly available website where I could query historical flight arrival info (I wasn't able to find anything on Google). I found that for the departing airport (TRN). In other words, I was expecting to do the legwork myself as ammunition for the next salvo to Lufthansa.
Appreciate the advice on contacting the relevant national body but in my case that would be Italy and I expect my chances of success are no more than if I deal directly with LH ... if you've never tried to do anything with governmental bodies in Italy, especially when you don't speak Italian ... impossible! As for the service providers who make and follow-up claims, I am tempted to do that as I don't have an infinite amount of time to devote to this, but put off by the requirement to provide them my personal information like passport copies.
The cancelled flights were TRN to FRA LH305 departing 0630 on February 9, 2013 and the same flight again departing 0620 on July 14, 2013.
In the first case, I was re-booked on the next LH flight to FRA but that meant I missed my connection to YVR and had to make multiple stops to get to my final destination in Canada ... it ended up being more than 24 hours of travel. In TRN, I had arrived at the airport at 5 a.m. to find the flight cancelled with no advance notification (the explanation provided on the sign at check-in was operational reasons). LH had only one agent to handle all the re-bookings, flight did not appear to be very full but people were really irritated that there was only one person providing service while the agents at the LH check-in counters sat idle. In the end he was pretty swift so I only waited in line an hour or so! LH handed out cards with information but everything was written in Italian so it was useless to me. But they did provide a coffee and croissant. Anyway, I decided not to bother pursuing compensation as I was travelling to a funeral and already stressed and upset.
Then the same flight was cancelled again in July, same modus operandi. I decided this time I wasn't just going to let it go. When you get up at 4 a.m. to make an early flight and arrive to find it cancelled with no explanation and crap service it's a real p*ss off. This time the check-in agents did the rebooking (there was more than one eventually) but were indifferent and slow as molasses, provided no information on passenger rights, no coffee, and this time I was flying on a business class ticket!
I only fly LH because I'm Star Alliance and it tends to be my only choice for the routes I typically travel. Otherwise I definitely wouldn't bother. I can't stand FRA airport.
