Question BA Bronze, Silver Status and AA 500 Mile Upgrades

Hello. I'm throwing this out to anyone who has experience with an observation I made. I am a BA Bronze and I do most of my flying on AA crediting my flights to BA for Avios and Tier points. I am taking an AA flight tomorrow and I see on my mobile boarding pass that I am an "Advantage Gold" for priority access. I am already aware that AA Gold is equivalent to BA Bronze/OW Ruby, and that I do get the priority boarding. My question.....has anyone with BA/OW status, but not specifically AA status, been able to use AA 500 mile upgrades to upgrade on fare classes that are not Y or B? Non-status AAdvantage members must book in Y or B, but AA Gold, Platinum and Executive Platinum can upgrade any economy class with 500 mile upgrades.

Thanks for anyone's time. I have before received great advice on here and as a result found a BA flight later this week that will elevate me to Silver.
