-Rooms were avg size (Kea Lani all Suite)
-Tried to sell Partial ocean views that did not exist.
-Gold club above us was extremely noisey (high heels, chairs moving)
-Bathrooms were disgusting
-Smaller pools, less attentive service, crappy lounge chairs, etc
-Kea Lani has the canoe expericence, Orchid has a cheap immitation that you can not per book
-Cockroaches
Anyone who has experienced both the Kea Lani and Orchid should attest to this.
Sorry to hear of your awful experience. I'm in a renovated ocean front suite in the north tower and was told the south tower ocean front suites were the next to be renovated. I thought the room didn't need a refresh last year but they went and redid everything anyways. The suite is green themed.
Comparing this suite to Kea Lani's last year I've always thought the Orchid's appointments were superior. This is just comparing suites from my experience of staying in both properties for the past ten years.
Albeit I've never stayed in the Fifth floor on the north tower. It's always been the fourth floor in recent years. As fifth floor is often requested, the suites must see more heavy traffic. I like Kea Lani's location and beach better, overall feel. But the Orchid I like because you get pretty much guaranteed sun all year round with only 8 inches of rain per year at the Kohala Coast. I've heard three week spans at the Kea Lani where it rained al the time and no sun, complete winter vacations under rain. At the Orchid, the pools aren't like Kea Lani but there is the desert climate aspect. It's so dry here that all the grounds must be irrigated.
The Orchid ripped out the ocean front sand hot tub since last year. I'm actually quite upset about this because there is now only one pool and one hot tub now. The Lagoon is really nice for the kids and my wife prefers this beach to Kea Lani's for the kids as there are less waves and safer.
