Hi all. Firstly, thanks to you all for running such a useful and well informed forum – I rarely post but often read your very helpful threads.

I have a question I’m sure you’ll be able to help me with. I am flying LHR-DFW-SEA on Thursday an AA51 (I wanted to try the new 777), booked though BA as BA1504 followed by BA2400 to Seattle. I have BA Silver status, and am booked in Economy (fare class L for both flights – bottom of the ladder I believe) – although at least I get to select AA’s Main Cabin Extra for free which looks like a slight improvement. My question is: any tips for trying to get an upgrade to business? I have more Avios than I can shake a stick at, but I’m aware I can’t use to upgrade them on my fare class, but I wondered if anyone has any clever suggestions, best just to ask about the option of a cash upgrade at check-in?
