Your typical blame CO response does not hold up here. ALL of the pmCO people that were running the Club Networks have been gone for more than two years. Every one of them, including the on-site support at the hubs that used to provide a reasonable response time. What's in place now is a product of pmUA IT attempting to make that model (open access) work. While it's popular for some here to promote the "CO took over" mantra, a great deal of the mid level IT management are pmUA folks and have thier own ideas how things should run, but that's a topic for another thread I suppose.

So then, with that "guess" .....you have no idea.
My "guess: would be that IAH has 2 leveraged Comcast business class cable modem circuits with download burst capability of 25+mbs.
One might also "guess" that the decision regarding being an open network, is not made by Technology, but from Marketing (Club) folks@:-) , based upon input from thier Club members. Input that overwhelmingly indicates "get on and go" is preferred over password.
"Poachers"are not what bring some of these locations to a crawl at times. There are plenty of people in the Clubs using bandwith sucking apps to accomplish that.
The answer to this is managing the bandwidth per connection (QoS). Another "guess" might be that this was being looked at for the President's Clubs...and then the merger came along.
