I think they are marked 'preferred' as these seats are only availble to SEN/HON to reserve in advance. (Don't think *G are included.) They are near the front of the plane which some people prefer, closer to the exit and pax will get served first. Apart from that there's no difference between these seats and the seats at the back of the plane.
Extra revenue? Sure, LH can sell more Y seats than C seats during the summer months when there is less business travel.
