I am thinking that it might make sense to switch to the Aegean mileage programme once I get past 100K. As I understand it, I need only crack 20K in year 1 then 15K annually thereafter to get Star Gold status with A3.
It kind of seems too easy to me, however. The only downside I can think of is not getting the 15K-20K credit annually towards UA lifetime status.
Am I missing something on this -- can anyone see flaws in my thinking? Thnks.
Depends upon how much you value United Club membership versus the 15k-20k redeemable miles you would get for those flights if you were to credit them to United. A club membership for a 1K only runs $400.
In my opinion, the 15k-20k redeemable United bonus miles you would lose by crediting to A3 would exceed $400, especially with United's benefit to purchase one-way award flights of less than 700 miles for only 10k miles.
