I'd also give the 300 a slight edge, for better fit and finish, rear wheel drive, and the uConnect system, which I prefer slightly to MyLink.
To be fair, I said the 2LTZ is nicer than the Taurus, but the 2LT is still not as good as the Taurus and 300C.
The Taurus is a strong contender and the rental fleet Taurus Limiteds are often fully optioned, but the 2LTZ is equally well optioned. The driving dynamics are only slightly worse, but the 2LTZ makes up for it with a much more spacious interior, dashboard design, and overall comfort. Although 0-60 times are similar for both cars, the Taurus felt a bit overweight; the Impala seemed nimbler. But I agree, the Impala's steering wheel is awful.
Also I find the exterior design on the Impala more handsome (from the front anyway).
Ford has its work cut out for the next Taurus redesign! I'd put the '14 Taurus Limited as a close second.
