Considering a SAN-MIA-MCO with ~6-hour stay in MCO to walk an industry trade show. Holding a $265 RT, booked in O, which is not eligible for BXP1 upgrade. Called AA, claimed W was the lowest bucket, but was told that it was not possible to upfare only the SAN-MIA redeye, changing the entire itinerary to W more than doubled the fair. Considered booking 2 one-ways but the fare is no longer available - O / Q start at $191 each way.

Is the rep correct? I have been able to upfare one leg on two previous occasions for a modest (approx $100) increase. Have not yet attempted to call back, figured it would be best to try in the morning, as some of the inventory currently on hold would become available.
