i have the opposite problem -- purchased a flight on Thursday, refunded it the same day, no charge or reversal and no hold on my account.

made two bookings on 8/5 no issues noted.

leave it to UA to not even be able to take your money in an efficient manner. how ridiculous. fortunately no more pending bookings for me.
