Are these vacuum toilets? If so, having the flush button behind the lid is a very common design requirement because of the risk of injury (and bad jokes) caused by flushing a vacuum toilet while seated.
Not sure of the technical term but they are the toilets in T5f when I am there without my family. Not sure what they are when I'm am in GC with my family as we just use commodes there
