Nope, not for Visa, MC or Amex anyway. Unembossed cards have 'FOR ELECTRONIC USE ONLY' (VISA and MC) or "ALL TRANSACTIONS MUST BE AUTHORISED AT POINT OF SALE" (Amex) written on them, which means the card MUST be authorised electronically.
