QF does have vet hefty surcharges in addition to real taxes. As do some other airlines in the www.Oneworld.com alliance

With an alliance you can earn miles in 1 program whilst flying a partner airlines, subject to the terms & conditions. Some cheap fares can earn little or nil miles. You can redeem those miles for award flights on your airline or partner airlines, subject to availability.
