Correction: 3rd party bookers can also choose a select seat in the front of the plane for $5-10 vs the $20-40 for stretch seating which gets you 36-38" legroom.

According to you Frontier was "significantly cheaper". I'm sure that Frontier was still "significantly cheaper" after the $2 charge for a soda.

I can't imagine what will happen once they start charging $100 for a carry-on at the gate. The vast majority of people on the two flights I flew were clearly once-a-year or less fliers and I could easily see those folks making a scene at the gate.
Just another correction: Only third-party passengers get charged for a carry-on.
