Wouldn't the CW seat attract higher taxes and fuel surcharges?

$300 and some avios to go CW rather than WTP on a long flight to LAX doesn't sound that bad to me, once you factor in getting some of those Avios back for the paid portion of the ticket. Particularly if you're a silver or above.
