You can pay both the arrival tax and departure tax in USD$ which may be more convenient than carrying a wad of IDR with you as the highest denomination note is IDR 10,000.
When paying though in USD$, you can use nothing less than a $5 note and they wont accept "tatty" or well worn notes. (As I found out, but thats another story)
