The FAs have to stay on the plane as long as there are (thru) passengers onboard. So I doubt the schedule was padded to allow them to go get food. Instead it was likely an early arrival, or the schedule was padded to account for frequent delays around the origin or destination city.
I may have worded this poorly. The FAs did not get off the plane. They took out their lunch boxes and ate in the plane. They told me that time was built into the schedule to give them time to eat and clean up. We were not early. We were on-time to BWI with a 45 min layover in early afternoon.
