The problem is that those who stand hogging the belt are also relying on the good will of those who chose to stand back and not be selfish about it.

If we all took the 'well its always going to happen so I'M going to do it' approach, you might find yourself behind 3-4 people and unable to see your bags which apparently is so important to you - what then, you throw people out the way because your ability to see the bags is more important than theirs (a belief you demonstrate by your behaviour). The fact that a sensible proportion of people chose to act unselfishly actually assists your non-altruisitic behaviour.

So we assist you by not doing what you do, we then get called 'whiners' for highlighting the simple fact that it is unnecessary and non-altruistic and then you complain that we insult you?! I think that kind of sums up the type of personalities that do this personally
