I've learned that even though people may give of themselves much of the time, for the most part they are inherently selfish. This is just one more example of that.

In general, we want to get as much as we can get for ourselves, don't we? welfare, disability benifits, tax evasion, workman's compensation, an exit row seat, airline points, manufactured spending... LOL Crowding the luggage rack is just another example of this. I just think things would run much smoother if people relaxed, stood back and allowed "everyone" to watch for their luggage instead of just thinking of themselves. Not a big deal though.
I would like think we just agreed to disagree. I do see the line at the belt just like the line at the store. I see it as no more selfish than being in line in front of other people in any other line. I don't like waiting for all the double frappe whip whip shots, or whatever they are, at Starbuck's-like places just to get a cup of coffee, but certainly don't see those folks as selfish.

Now, having said that, I will allow that some of the folks at the belt are probably there just so they can get their bags first. But, some are there because they can't stand back and watch for their luggage because they can't identify it from a distance. There are always people who check several bags before finding theirs. I am there because the first two groups make it much harder to make sure no one grabs my bag unless I am standing close to the belt.

And, I don't do welfare, disability, workman's comp or tax evasion. I do shoot for exit row seats when I end up flying coach and I do collect and use my airline and hotel points. Don't see those as selfish, either.

Not sure what you mean by manufactured spending?
