I do not. Bali is a small, relatively sensitive island with a unique culture. The previous governor had laws which prevented developers building anything too large or too high, but the new governor has, it seems, gone with the money and is accepting just about anything - hence The Mulia.

I thought that the InterCon and St Regis were too big and too ugly, but The Mulia makes them look positively tiny.

I was told that The Mulia was built to attract the Chinese market and that it was expected to see coachloads of tour groups. Even if you can get a good suite here with good service, this is not the sort of enterprise that I could ever condone and I would certainly never stay here.

I respect that you enjoyed your stay, but I wonder why you booked it. Were you just curious about this new hotel? Was it the introductory offer that appealed? Do you prefer large hotels?

Err.. I think you might got the wrong impression of this hotel. Actually, the Mulia Bali is one megaresort with three hotels in it, ie 1) Mulia Resort, 2) The Mulia and 3) Mulia Villas and each have their own facilities and separate locations. The first one, yes, as you said, huge, crowded and mainly cater to the more budget minded/mid-range or chinese market with attractive room rates. The second and third one are way more exclusive and boutique in nature. Guests from The Mulia suites and Mulia Villa can access the facilities of the main resort but not the other way round. So it is not one big resort with everything thrown in together like you speculated.

I booked it not because of the introductory offers. Just thought I want to try something new. Their rates are about on par with other resorts. I like both boutique and large hotels but yes I do tend to get bored with boutique hotels easily, maybe due to the lack of facilities.

I hope you will give the resort a chance and try out The Mulia or the Mulia Villas and I am quite confident you will end up being very impressed. But if not, it just seems to me that you are missing out something but I can appreciate and respect that perhaps this resort does not meet your criteria. Nothing wrong with that. It will be boring if all of us like the same thing.
