Benlee, do you therefore find it acceptable for Bali to have resorts of this size, which more resemble las Vegas?
I do not. Bali is a small, relatively sensitive island with a unique culture. The previous governor had laws which prevented developers building anything too large or too high, but the new governor has, it seems, gone with the money and is accepting just about anything - hence The Mulia.
I thought that the InterCon and St Regis were too big and too ugly, but The Mulia makes them look positively tiny.
I was told that The Mulia was built to attract the Chinese market and that it was expected to see coachloads of tour groups. Even if you can get a good suite here with good service, this is not the sort of enterprise that I could ever condone and I would certainly never stay here.
I respect that you enjoyed your stay, but I wonder why you booked it. Were you just curious about this new hotel? Was it the introductory offer that appealed? Do you prefer large hotels?
