Pretty old thread but I thought I'd share my experiences with the French Amex gold card as the application progresses.
So I live in France as an expat and I filled the online application for a gold card on the americanexpress.fr site, scanned all the required paperwork (passport/ID, EDF bill and RIB) then I just signed it electronically with a verification code by SMS.
The limit for a gold card in France is 50k€. I just put that much as my income in the application. My salary comes from an international organisation so no tax records to show if they happen to ask.. Though I would probably fall a bit short of the 50k€ limit even if I pooled all my income and proofed it somehow with receipts or payslips. That's actually how I got here, wondering if they do any income checks or not.
Then about three days later I got a generic letter in the mail with instructions what to send them (which I already did online??). So I waited some more and after a week I got an email saying something like thank you for your interest in Amex and your application is under consideration, you will receive a definite answer in the coming days.
I guess I'll find out my fate in the coming days/weeks. Fingers crossed.
I would love an Amex, not so for the credit since I already have the normal Visa/Master credit cards, but for the MR points that I can transfer to Finnair.
