On Alaska, at least, they block a lot of seats that are visible only to MVP or higher status passengers. At least 6 or 7 rows of 6 seats, including row 6 and the exit row 17. I count 37 blocked seats on a random date next year with no seats yet selected. These seats open up to anyone to select at OLCI at T24. Looking at SEA-LIH in Nov. as an example, I see at least 25 or more seats available to me to select. So there are seats available, you just can't see them if you don't have elite status with AS. If you post what date and routing you are looking at, I can count the number of seats showing as available to me if you like.
Super kind of you to offer Finkface ^; if you get time to check Nov 1st to Nov 15th I would be curious to see the difference. Actually, I'm seeing 28 non-mileage elite seats available on the 1st flight, which isn't bad, but only 13 on the return; not many for a flight 3 months away.
