We're planning a 40th anniversary trip to Italy this fall for 6 adults. We are renting a Ford van from Hertz in Florence and dropping in Rome. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and the Hertz forum, we decided it would be a good idea to get extra insurance beyond the basic CDW and TP that are included in our rate. Most of what I read indicated no coverage with most US credit cards. Being stubborn, I decided it was still worth a try to check out the cards I had. Both my Amex and M/C were a bust. However, my Chase United Visa produced pay dirt! A phone call confirmed coverage in Italy and for the vehicle we have rented. On a 3 day rental, it will save us about $175.00 US. I guess all I'm saying is, sometimes persistence does pay off!
