The original DL173 to NRT using N662US departed out of gate B26 yesterday, not B32, relatively on time. Before taxiing out of the alleyway, the mechanical problem was discovered (spoilers, amongst other things). It then pulled to the side by Terminal 3 (the old Gate 8 / 9 area) where the pax were disembarked by stairs and buses when it was determined that N662US was not fit to fly until later that evening.
The incoming DL172 from NRT using N673US arrived and parked at gate B32, where it was repositioned for the delayed JFK-NRT instead of going to TLV later that evening. The problem with N662US was anticipated to be fixed by the time TLV was scheduled to depart, hence one of the reasons for the switch.
Got it. Appreciate you providing the correct information. I knew I heard them calling for boarding, and saw it push and start to taxi, but then stopped. That's got to be a long day for those poor travelers.
