I don't believe it is ALWAYS, but occasionally.
They could be anything, GS, NRSA, friends/wife/husband/gf/bf of the crew, or just someone "special". Other than sundaes, it could also be a cookie (sometimes just leftover from F), bottom of wine, an amenity kit if it is international.
Bottom line, stop worry about what others are getting that you don't get, FA do favors all the time no matter UA or even foreign carriers !
P.S. Back in the days when they still have those instant noodles for TPAC flights, for shorter TAPC flights like SEA-NRT, noodles were not supposed to be served in Y for mid-flight snack, only bag of chips, almond cookie, and kit kat. I was the only one got the noodles sitting in Y at 21J being 1P, and I was offered bottle of wine so many times as helping FA to deal with irate pax, jealous ?
I edited my OP to be less exaggerated.
I am not really jealous or nosy, and as I mentioned I don't expect one. I was just merely curious if there was a specific reason for it, for example if it was a unpublished GS benefit.
