It relates to their year, not your year.
Not sure if that works for someone who is actually Silver at the time, though I think it does - and there's no point asking since I doubt anyone in BAEC will know this detail. However it would be good if someone here who gave a Gold Partner card to a Silver at the start of the SCH's membership year could confirm my suspicion that they thereby got 2 years of Gold, per their card expiration date.
So think ahead a bit!
I know this is a first world problem, but what a confusing mess this silver / gold card issue is. Apparently, the card is issued at Silver each time, despite me qualifying for a Gold partner card each year and you then have to phone up and ask them to convert it to Gold! Why the system cant flag it to save me ringing up every year is a bit beyond me...
So, according to my calculations, thats 19 months at Gold and then a soft landing to Silver, so thats lounge access sorted until the end of Uni, which means I can now juggle the remaining family, who also have University plans!
Anyway, all done, a great benefit to have as he normally travels Y or WTP, but it still seems to me parts of the GGL program are held together with string and sticky tape.
Dear Beano Jnr,
We are delighted to tell you that Mr Beano HK has nominated you for an Executive Club partner card.
As you're already a Silver Member, this means that at the end of your current membership year, you'll automatically remain at the Silver tier for another 12 months. At the start of your new membership year, your Tier Points will be set to zero. However, your Avios will still be there for you to enjoy.
Your membership number remains the same so you can access your account as usual.
We hope you continue to enjoy the benefits of your Silver membership into the next year.

Warm regards,
James (name redacted, but we all know who he is anyway, but rules is rules)
