I'm looking at an upcoming stay at the Fairmont Whistler. Amex FHR has 3rd night free but costs a fair bit more than booking the non-refundable rate through Expedia. I don't mind paying the higher price because of the FHR benefits but I need the third night to count towards my plat5 qualification.
Regarding Plat5 qualification, just pay your stay with a Canadian Platinum Amex for the entire stay no matter how you book. Ime all nights will count towards Plat5 qualification including blended rates with comp nights.
